With this conference, we aim to explore the field from the point of view of the collectors themselves. Adopting a pluralistic view on early modern collecting, we will critically engage with the distinctions between natural history collectors and antiquarians, princely collectors and scholars, private and public collections, and indeed the idea of a sharp distinction between collecting practices in the Renaissance and the Enlightenment.
