Museology: Curation and Cultural Heritage – an elective for bachelor students.
The elective Museology: Curation and Cultural Heritage is targeted bachelor students at Aarhus University.
'Museology: Curation and Cultural Heritage', made up of four courses, is an elective for bachelor students at AU. Typically, the students come from many different subject areas, and there is therefore a rich interdisciplinary environment in class. Researchers from the Centre for Museology teach the elective, focusing on society's use and preservation of cultural and natural heritage. Classes are centred around lectures, group work and field trips to cultural institutions. The elective lasts for one year and includes the following courses: 'Institutions and exhibitions', 'Curation and users' and 'Cultural heritage and digitality'. The fourth course at the end of the elective is a two-month internship at a Danish or international cultural institution, e.g. a museum, an archive, an exhibition venue or a cultural centre.
As interns, students work with many specific issues at their chosen cultural institution. In order to secure a wide variety of internship opportunities for students, the Centre for Museology has collaborated with a wide range of institutions, especially museums, in Denmark and abroad. For cultural institutions, inviting internships is an opportunity to get students’ assistance in relation to specific issues.
Cultural institutions who would like to invite a student to do a practical internship are encouraged to contact Ane Hejlskov Larsen.
