Curating AU’s early anatomical history
Donna Briggs Bødtkjer, AIAS Associate Fellow & Associate Professor, Department of Biomedicine.
“In 1933, Aarhus University inaugurated its first building. Contained within the functionalistic façade were specialised facilities for dissection-based anatomy training of medical students, including a classical anatomy theatre.
The anatomy theatre curiously existed for a mere 12-15 years before being removed.
Donna Briggs Bødtkjer investigating the architectural characteristics of this lost space with the goal of recreating it for exhibition. In this process, I am tracing and curating the vestiges of the anatomists and anatomy practices themselves, with particular focus on the practical and ethical aspects of receiving bodies on campus for dissection in the 1930’s and 1940’s."
